The Course

Thursdays at 1:30 pm

September 10, 2026 to May 14, 2027

This course is designed as an introduction to the Vulgate, the Scriptures in Latin, and is particularly suited for intermediate students of Latin who are encountering this venerable text for the first time. Students will be immersed in simple yet engaging material complete with glossary and grammatical helps. Throughout the week students will work independently through the readings using the tools at hand. Once per week we will meet together as a class to read through translations, ask questions, and review grammatical material. Ideal students for this course will already be familiar with the five declensions of nouns and four conjugations of verbs, as well as the various degrees and types of adjectives and adverbs. Trickier grammatical concepts such as gerundives and participles will be reviewed in class.

Grade Level: Middle School and High School

How it works:

Group Translation

Every week we will meet together as a class to work on our translations together. We will discuss grammar and vocabulary as we read through each passage of Scripture.

Individual Translation

After working on our Scripture passage together, students will complete it on their own using the skills they've acquired to read on their own. Questions that arise during individual translation will be covered in the next online class gathering.

Supplementals

Each translation will be supplemented by vocabulary and grammar review, exercises, and quizzes. These are aimed at ensuring that the skills we acquire in class won't be forgotten.

Hi, I'm your instructor,

Kyle Brown

I have a deep love and appreciation for the Latin language and Roman history, and I've been blessed with the opportunity to teach these classes in a variety of settings. I've taught Latin to all types of students, from middle schoolers to graduate students and everything in between. As a classical homeschooling father, I also know how important it is to provide your children with the best quality education you can. That's why I'm offering these courses. It's my goal to help bridge the gap for parents who want to offer their children the best Classical Education they can, but perhaps don't have a strong Latin background themselves. Parents, I'm here to tell you: it is possible! And I'm happy to help provide the solution. With you, the homeschooling parent, in mind I've designed these courses to be the perfect balance of flexible and hands-on. God bless.
